I think the original thread would have been sufficient for this. But I would be willing to donate the prize money. (if it is around $25) I'm not good at anything more than mimicking a picture to make a vector. (Horrible imagination/skills make it hard for me to do it without a comparison or it almost done (adding finishing touches)(then again, I've never really tried on the computer, but the lack of an image makes it hard to start, so I don't plan on trying if I don't have to.))
I was going to donate 40$, then I got distracted by the disappearance of the donation thread. It's still set aside, though, so I'm perfectly willing to throw it back in the ring.
Or, if that doesn't work, make it a girl. That narrows it down a good fifty percent.

It definitely has to be a girl, and she has to be cute. Probably chibi. That's all I can think of for now.
On a side note* I just noticed, I should keep the steam group picture updated to the current Konachan avatar.

If it's an original character, I vote she be named Kona, so that her formal would be Kona-chan, cause I'm punny like that. As for not reviving the old thread JJK, it's mostly because it is an old thread. A shiny new title is much more likely to be read, I think, and opens up the topic again rather than just commenting on the old.

I like the idea of calling her Kona, not for the pun meaning, but what else would possibly be more fitting? She should have blue eyes and black hair...like really pretty blue eyes, sapphire-like.
I'm poor as dirt so I can't contribute, but I hope to see this set in motion.
From what i gathered you guys are suggesting a chibi with blue eyes. I'm pretty good at drawing but i havn't posted anything on here cause
A: not good enough imho
B: to afraid to do it.
Also i can't do backgrounds for my life so i might be able to do something for this.
For the eyes should they be the cold and collected or innocent one?Or maybe some other kinds.

~Cough~ The current Azu Neko for Winter and Kanade for every other occasion works perfectly fine, in my opinion..
bwehehe sounds familiar...Tiki said:

Back in the day when the original thread was going around I remember thinking of maybe wanting to draw a mascot.... and now I look back at that like "how did I even dare"... now I -might- be able to draw something worthy enough, but I've got time limitation problems... again....
I drew something.
It's a rough sketch (clearly), and it's just an idea (since, at the moment, we have none). Literally all of it would be subject to change. I'm just putting something out there to get a hint at what might be wanted. If a mod or admin so wishes, I'll color it (not good at coloring, but I'll do the best damn job that I can). If a mod or admin has opinions on how to change it, I can do that too. If they say it flat out isn't what they're looking for, I'll scrap it. No feelings hurt.
Even if a mod liked it, it clearly isn't a final product, and, to be honest, I doubt I'm skilled enough to deliver a final product. But this is somewhat of a start.

I would like to know what should be worn for the mascot. Cause i have a quick sketch. Now i don't mind,in fact i would encourage anyone wanting to color, and other things like that(i can't color very).
That's actually not that bad, Seems good enough for kona standards, I Think, There will be disscussing about quality standards and such. I can probably color it with some default windows editor on this computer.Tiki said:

I had some free time so I took PAIIS design and colored it while making it a vector.

Let me know if you liked the colors I choose. I kinda gave up on the eyes after awhile, I haven't tried to do anime style eyes yet. I might do the same with yours later Tiki, but I'm tired now.

The unfortunate part of all of this is, so long as Shuugo doesn't say "Alright", it doesn't matter.
It looks good so far, love blue eyes added in, but shouldn't she seem a little more happy?
I'll admit, the expression is boring. It worked better in the profile view. I was going for a look of moderate boredom combined with an unfazed, slightly playful confidence (characterized more by the pocky than anything else). That sort of personifies the site for me. However, I'm hardly wild about the expression. I'll mess with it more tonight, change up the hair a bit, too. See if I can improve just a bit.
On a side note, it would be nice if a mod at least acknowledged this thread. I feel like it's all fairly pointless, otherwise. ^_^' (I blame video games for Stahn's disappearance.)
Oh, and thanks for the color job, JKK. It looks good. Much cleaner than my drawing. ;)
Update:
Done. Four different emotions with a slightly different (hopefully improved) hair. That's all the work I'm putting into this until I get a admin's/mod's "yay", "nay", or "meh".
Realized something, too: I suck at coloring. Maybe it's just the program I use, I just can't get a handle on it. Not like I have much practice at it, though.

what are the basic requirements, is chibi and with blue eyes all there is? i'll make a few sketches and see what i can come up with if there are no objections with my participation!
No requirements, at the moment. Chibi is somewhat implied, I suppose. Beyond that, just something that can represent Konachan is all.
Hmm, I think I may try and do a little something too, but I don't know how I'll get it on the net, my printer/scanner doesn't like me.

Don't own one, but I have a camera on my phone, it takes decent pictures, 3.2 Mega Pixels. I'll see what I can conjure up first, then just link it from Photobucket.
anyone know of any distinctive identification features we can put on, such as numbers or text which represent konachan in some way?
what about a name?
what about a name?
gee if I had time and an idea I'd draw something..... but unfortunately I don't really have time nor an idea..... I've got a Miku right now on the works and after that a certain project I wanted to give a try before my military training kicks in.... I'll probably be occupied for the rest of the week before it and then I just can't get to drawing other than weekends >.<
but if I manage to squeeze it out, I might give it a try as well..... this time.... now that I think about it my situation is very much the same as back in the day when the original thread was going around....

How about Konata from Lucky Star.
Most characters call her Kona-chan anyway.

The number 57 represents Konachan. The name was actually changed to 57chan for a little while. Other than that, I assume Kona would be the name.Bringerof_D said:

The only problem with Konata is she's from a copyright. As I understand it, it'd be preferred for the mascot to be original.
Kona-tan? Or is that too general?
Okay so I had some free time so I did a little something. Close up on the left, close up on the right., and a different idea here, and a close up of it.
They are very rough sketches drew in a matter of 30 minutes or so, and I only had a basic black ink pen on hand (I hate pens, but if I had to use one I'd prefer the Ballpoint Gel kind) and it was early so I was kinda tired. I personally like the "Ko-chan & Na-chan" myself, but that isn't exactly fitting for a simple avatar, also being 2 characters.
ALSO! I had to take those pictures with my phone...so the quality is bad.

Between JJK and PAIIS, the whole "prize pot" is around $65. Ideas for an exact design of the character are great, in the mean time I'll roll around my contacts and see if I can find the best quality I can for $65. Honestly, I think we'll be able to get some very good art for that pool.
This artist charges 15$ for a full color picture, and +$10 for each extra character If we wanted, say, four drawings of kona-chan, it'd be $45 if we grouped them into one picture.
This artist charges $10 for a chibi, and $25 for a character.
If you guys have suggestions on styles, I'd be able to hunt around more. For $65 though if you wanted me to really dig down and look, I'm sure I could find Tony Taka himself, ehehe... at least someone with comparable style and quality.

An anonymous benefactor has upped the price pool to $100~! With this much to wave under the noses of various artists, we'll have who ever we want, really. Even though the real cost seems to be around an average of between $10 and $20. It's still a good attention getter! Anyway, you... character developer committee, keep developing the character, someone get The Shuugo in here too. This can happen, all we need to know is what to draw!
On that subject, I've been out of the conversation mostly, but I vote for either making her a catgirl or at least have cat ear headband.
I've got a list of 8 (and counting) artists who've contacted me which have passed standards that would make Sci and Stahn cringe. This is J-list-girl style and quality I have, the average price is $15 for the people I have written down.

Shit, with that much I drop out, nothing I can draw is worth that much. I'll leave it to the people who have those electronic sketchy pad things. But if anything, she has to have blue eyes pwease. =3
Don't stop sketching at least, something to show the artists is good, and so is brainstorming! But I like the original idea of blue eyes, black hair. Perhaps a seifuku with a light purple necktie, comment-box-color sweater and black skirt? Also cat ears, yes. User-name-pink hairpin maybe?

over 1 year agoThe interest for soliciting an interest for an official Konachan mascot, still interesting?
A konachan mascot, is one still needed, wanted and motivating? If so then I could directly set up and manage a contest to have not one, but many submissions done! It's all about incentive. For the aforementioned prize money, if it'd be offered again, we could get loads of contest entries! $50 and $25 to the other two will draw a big crowd of talent and quality work. The best part, people will come crawling to our door rather than us having to grovel and beg. It's not uncommon for contests that offer far less than this to get 20+ submissions.
So, a question, who's willing to pitch in or offer a prize? And for that matter, who should the mascot be?
