Ecchi, you know, I think I should remind you of something:
Anime watching is the hobby that you do to fill up your spare time. Not the other way around. You seriously are treating it as if it were your job and school was just a nuisance getting in the way xD'
I haven't been busy browsing wallpapers... I mean, I know I am only at post #113446, so I still have +20k posts to go through before "finishing my list" (to use your terms). But I can easily go through 1~1.5k posts per hour, so I have no rush there. xP I am mostly dealing with the rest of my life and work :P

Hmm, I am usually not around here on the weekends, and I haven't had much to reply to around here otherwise. Since Gregol and Mnessie vanished (vacation related, I reckon) there hasn't been all that interesting material to reply to. Until I read these recent comments on this thread, that is.ecchifan96 said:

The reason I take my anime viewing so seriously is because I'm unsatisfied with the amount of anime I've seen so far and I'm behind everyone else. I just want that to end as soon as possible. But the pace I'm moving at right now dosen't make anime any less enjoyable for me. This wouldn't be the least bit stressful if everybody would just leave me alone long enough for me to finish this thing -3- and btw, school has been a nuisance to me long before I started my list...SK7000 said:

Well, Ecchi, I am glad you are enjoying your anime and not brooding every passing episode with a feeling of "this is not going fast enough. I'll never catch up. Damn world which conspires against me!!!111!1"
Sorry to hear about school, I understand that's pretty much "normal" for a lot of people...

Ecchi I can tell you that I haven't watch a lot of animes. I don't know how many there are I like to watch but I can't simply find the time to watch them. So I simply just stick a couple anime with the latest releases every season.
I did the same thing when i started to watch anime. When i finished all the recent ones or i had to wait a week for a new episode i moved onto some other ones.FoliFF said:

In my case is a bit diffrent. When I have finished the recent ones or wait for next episode other activities take place such as play VNs, manga video games etc. that fills the void. In the end there isn't time to watch the older ones xD
ok i watched both episodes of Campione! and i'm confused as to why she's all of a sudden all lovey dovey with the MC. I was fishy about the whole lovey dovey act she was pulling but she says it's genuine near the end of ep 2 and yet i still think that there something fishy about it. I mean it's really weird on how her character took a 180 all of a sudden with no explanation what-so-ever.
If you watch the more recent anime first you get the advantage that you can discuss it with everybody else who's discussing it currently. The drawback is that it might be harder to enjoy older shows afterwards because the quality is (almost certainly) going to be lower.
So, unless you can totally overlook animation/graphic quality, it might be best to watch series in chronological order (at least the ones you are sure you want to watch).
Just my thought on the matter.... and speaking of thoughts, is it just me (and I just never really noticed it before), or there's been a growing trend for using twin-tails haircuts in manga/anime growing over the past 15 or so years?
Back when I was young and new to anime, twin-tails weren't such a big deal or that used, but nowadays (specially as I browse Konachan), they seem to be everywhere, as if every series needed to have at least one girl with such haircut. What happened? Miku isn't to be blamed for that.... or is it?

It's been going on for a very long time (from what i've seen) and it's one of the main reasons why i never got to like twin tails. It's the hipster in me i guess. It's just that twin tails are so over used it got boring after seeing it so much.SK7000 said:

I love twin tails, especially the unrealistically long ones. I actually don't see it much in the anime I watch. That's just me personally though. But I don't like braided twin tails.
@stahn: yeah i'm note really sure where toradora would site in terms of genre but to me it felt slice of life/harem. normally harem animes play each route before settling on the main heroine, but in this case they did not waver around too much if at all.
YnS i dunno none of the drama stuck. at least for me the drama felt like it was written in for the sake of having a reason for the main character to get close to each girl.
speaking of Endless 8 I liked the 8 episode repeat. Not at the time of watching it of course, however as the arc ended i came to love it. Yes 2 episodes would have gotten the point across, but having it absolutely annoy the crap out of the viewer was a necessity of that arc. Having you rip your hair out after watching the same thing week after week for 8 weeks was the exact point of it. It was a bold choice by the director to do it that way and i think he made the right decision. imagine having to sit there just as you are as the viewer, an observer unable to or in this case not allowed to interfere, for 15,527 times. You know exactly how to fix this but you can't act, you are only supposed to observe. Nagato did this, and she remembers every minute detail without fail. The endless 8 arc isn't about Haruhi repeating the summer timeline at all, that may as well be irrelevant. It's about Yuki. It wasn’t exactly subtle, Kyon even questions what Nagato must have been feeling during that time. However the fact that she may have been developing emotions was down played the entire time, so it may have been intentional that the full effect of endless 8 was not meant to hit you until a particular scene in the movie. so you're either gonna really hate the arc or you really love it and that seems to be exactly what i'm seeing amongst the reactions. The people who got hit by it love it and the people who didn’t hate it.
some people bash it and call the endless 8 arc cheap money saving measure or lazy animators. this is not true in any way. Every arc despite having the same events were in no way the same. Every shot was different, new backgrounds, different outfits each time, new animations every time. I can assure anyone who believes it was to be cheap that they saved no money doing this and put the same effort towards it as any regular episode.

Actually, the main problem is that twintails have been pigeonholed as the typical hairstyle for tsunderes. I actually like twintails (well, depending on the general char design), but I get annoyed when the twintailed char also happens to be a (stereo)typical tsundere. I have a similar problem when the glasses wearing girl (meganekko) in a series is some big-boob homely girl.
I've found it irritating that personality types have come to that strongly dictate char designs and vice versa. It kinda sad. Then again, originality has been on the decline since around 2005 or so in anime. Series have mostly been cookie-cutter plots and char design & personalities. It horridly evident in most VN-to-anime adaptation. LN-to-anime is getting there as well.
As for E8...
All in all, the K-On! movie was a relaxing way to kill nearly 2 hours.

@Bringer
Toradora was never considered a true harem. It was more drama in the long. Bits of slice of life play out during the it, but that can be said of many drama series as they try to build up char dev and lead up to the climax. A real harem take on Toradora would have all three main girls going after Ryuuji much sooner and probably more aggressively. The hallmark of most harem series is that at the conclusion of each female's intro or plot arc, they fall for the hero immediately. Toradora built up its relationships much more slowly in comparision and with better reasoning and development behind them.As for E8...
Speaking of KyoAni:

I was in a little funk because of the week I've been having (first time in months) but all I needed to cheer up was one episode of Gintama. This anime's funny enough to bring my mood up almost right away but unlike Death Note or Code Geass it's not addictive enough to distract me from studying for too long ^_^ which reminds me, I need to get back to work now...
Hit the nail right on the head. It practically kept a smile on my face the entire time. Such a good movie.StahnAileron said:

I think it's telling that I really never noticed twin-tails in my radar until I got a crush for a girl who wears the hairstyle. o.O;
Also, I never noticed that twin-tails were being (ab)used mostly for hard-to-catch characters (I really dislike the tsundere term ¬¬), I always assumed it was just meant as a youthful (for lil'girls) hairstyle. But then again, 96% or so of anime is all about kids and teenagers x_x'
Personally, I still prefer long, waving pony-tails. But that's off-topic, so I'll drop it there.

I have a decade and a half of regualr anime watching, discussion, and research to back up my views on the medium. You eventually pick up on things. And unlike ecchi, I didn't marathon the hell out nof stuff, so I had plenty of time for certain things to sink in insetad of being overwritten by a new series. (Marathoning isn't very good when you actualy use anime as a tool like I do at times.) The twintails thing is just a generalization overall. It's not always the case, of course, but it is a rule of thumb these days that tsundere = twintails.SK7000 said:

Tsundere is a legitimate char personality classification. It's sums up matters much better than the "hard-to-catch" term you decided to use. A tsundere can actually be "easy-to-catch" as well.
Keep it within context of anime char designs and it would be fine. I prefer long hair in general and either dark colors or very like colors. I'm not big on pink or red though. Note that hair color in anime is usually also an indicator of personality traits as well. (At least in the series that use fantastical hair colors.)SK7000 said:

- Light blue hair tends to be the cold, despondent chars. (Ayanami_Rei, Meia_Gisborn, Tabitha; similar can be said of white, gray, or silver hair).
- Pink is usually a quirky or ditzy char. Blonde is a foreigner or high-class char.
- Red is a hot-blooded char or the sex appeal (Red = aggressive, usually.)
Wow, you really have done some analysing of everything.
My anime-lore isn't that extensive, so when I think about hairstyles or hair-colours I back myself up with video-game references instead. I wonder what does it say about me the fact that I love almost-black colours (specially blue-black) and deep red tones.... that hair-colour ~ personality link is amazing, I didn't notice it before. o.o;
What is the right definition for tsundere anyway? When I did a search a few days ago, the wikipedia article summarized it as a development model in which the character originally is cold, distant or hostile, and opens/warms up to the other(s) as time passes. When I read that, to me it basically meant "playing/being hard to get." Is the definition a lot more than just that? If so, then what it is..?

Wiki explains it as a char type that goes through some from of development (i.e. Char is tsun and develops into dere.) To be honest, it can also mean "public" facade of being standoffish and a "private" face of being loving. (i.e. around aquaintance/groups/crowds, the char is aggressive and standoffish. When alone with their partner, they're more docile and loving.)
Tsundere's also have the opposite (would be "deretsun", but nobody uses that.) Ayatsuji_Tsukasa would be a prime recent example: Outwardly sweet and kind, being inwardly aggressive and vindicative.
I think the confusion you came across is due to the face that a tsundere personality tends to be the BASIS for a char's development ("breaking down the wall" so to speak.) That isn't always the case.
Look at Taiga from Toradora: she's a textbook tsundere. She's quite aggressive normally, but you see her silly caring side as well without needing extensive char development (unlike say, Louise or Shana). Most of the story didn't really have anything to do about her slowly switching from one trait (tsun) to the other (dere). She displayed both (hence being a tsundere) upfront. The story was how her RELATIONSHIP developed with Ryuuji (and the other around her). Her being a tsundere was a plot-device, but it wasn't the basis for the plot, if you get what I'm saying.
So no, the various char trait terms you see aren't necessarily developmental models for a chars. They CAN be if the author wants to do that, but that's not always the case. The terms simply describe the dominant/primary traits of a char. Kuudere and yandere are in the same boat. Some char start as one and develep into another as a series progresses. (See Fuyou_Kaede and the primary School_Days heroines). Others just ARE that way when you see them (Gasai_Yuuno).
TVtropes.org has more informative data, especially since they provide examples from all media source they can think of there. (They also try to justify the examples. Just note that it is a wiki, so take some of the examples and arguments with a grain of salt.)

Eek, now I feel like a master in tsundere lore. Well, it certainly was a bit more than what I gathered from the original article. And I guess I understand now the personality profile that defines a tsundere. Well, the more you know, the better.
The wiki article probably should be updated. *whistles innocently* wait, maybe I should do that? I don't recall the last time I tried to update wikipedia, ages ago, most likely.

The problem with Wikipedia is that they strive to be factual with reliable sources to back it up. Pop culture phenomenom like anime culture terms are hard to write up and publish there since it's mainly conjecture and crowdsourcing information.
Personally, I don't bother. I love Wikipedia as a gateway source, but you do have to take a lot of it's data with a grain of salt (esepcially the fringe and niche topics, like the various anime terms.) I'm more tolerant of their articles based on sciences or history (where physical evidence is readily available). It'll give you insight, sure, but it's far from all-encompassing. TV Tropes was better in this case because it's what they do as a site ^_~
Just watch and read lots of anime and manga. You might be surprised at how much you can learn by reading translator's notes as well ^_~ (Part of the reason I despise localizations and dubs.)

What year did Needless come out?
It came out in 2009. I must admit there were plenty of good anime in 2009. I even have an AMV someone made with that thought in mind so it has mainly 2009 anime in it.
You couldn't be more right. I'm actually looking forward to watching the anime of '09 more than I am to finishing my list, I made sure to add plenty of them :3Bardiche752 said:

I like the plot of this show. The title music in it is also awesome.
If you have the time you should also pick up the manga. Especially now since there is no missing chapters anymore <.<
I enjoyed Needless too.

I've thought it, since I have a Blogger account, being a Gmail/Google Account user and all.... But it's not really worth it in my opinion. Generalizing my views on what I watch is too much work, really. If you haven't noticed, I tend to reply to specific points people bring up here. Trying to do what I do at the scale of a whole series in one go = way too much. I also believe in personalized responses (from my experiences in helping people with PCs and stuff like that.) "Customer Support" is a lost art these days (being outsourced and using prepared scripts en masse).
I take into account too much when coming up with replies to be a reviewer. I'd be writing essays and dissertations/theses instead of reviews. Plus there's whether or not I want to deal with readers who are narrow-minded fanboys or trolls.
And of course: I want my anime watching to be enjoyable on my own terms, not a job. Anime as a form of media is much too subjective for my taste (I thrive on logic and objectivity more.) As much as I enjoy it overall, there are things about it I dislike as well. Being force to sit through a series I don't care for, all for the sake of a review/job, doesn't sound enticing to me.
If I knew in advance some people might give a damn, sure, maybe I would do it for the series I do watch, but *shrug*
