Don't forget your laptop accesses the internet via a gateway somehow. Unless you get cellular access or are leeching off a neighboorhood wi-fi connection, your internet could've died.

Anyway, I was pointing out the that (hopefully) nothing got damaged in the strike. Even a surge supressor might not be able to fry itself fast enough to prevent all damage to any connected devices at the point of a strike. (That's several hundred thousand to millions of volts you're looking at all pumped in a split second.) From the sound of things, seems you home was wired up and electrically grounded properly.

... Actually, you guys have insurance that covers lightning strike damage? ^_^
