How has Anime/Manga affected your life?
Has Anime/Manga helped you through a tough point in your life? Helped define who you are? Made you want to be better? Given you a crazy fear? I'm interested in how other people have been affected.
i began drinking milk more after watching black_cat. and after kyon said (either in one of the seasons or disappearance) that he drinks milk after showering, i tried it and found it's really refreshing...only thing that comes to mind atm...
This my sound weird, but when I frst saw Samurai Champloo when I was 10 I became obsessed with swordsmanship. That's why I became a swordsman, not the best, but I won a tournament, and I'll get better.
Ahem...
Well anime has certainly made my life interesting. Ive learned a lot, met some great people and i just really enjoy life as a fan ^_^

Oh come on, it's not as bad as that. XD Pardon me for not having some profound religious awakening after watching anime.
Ohh, man, I have a bit I could say honestly. starting back with Toonami, with DBZ, Inuyasha and stuff. But more specifically, I'll tend to relate situations more from what I've seen in an anime/manga, sometimes helping me out, it's partly responsible to me growing my hair out (currently a bit past my shoulders), it's inspired me to draw more, it's taught me some things in life, life lessons and such. Even from some fighting scenes in all sorts of animes, not just fighting based ones, I've developed my own kind of fighting style, in a mix with the MGS3 CQC style.
I owe alot to anime/manga for the things I know.
I've seen several series, and some of them did have an impact. It's hard to recall exactly how these connections are laid out before as a lot of things have happened, and growing up for me was a process I chased more than anything else in the world. It had a drive or pride, and I had little other interests than to get "better" than who or whatever. I think what got to me more than specific series was that the Japanese had a view about artificial life like no others, it was a part of society, of the future, it had detail and colour, we had vacuum cleaners and toasters with terrible voice acting.

On a side note , Nagato/Pain from the Naruto series (yes, I'm aware it's mainstream) reminded me that war was a part of human nature. I always figured it like that but that's when I stopped hiding how I felt about humans. They're messy and imperfect.

More recently I had a change of opinion by Yosuga no Sora about family relations and their consequences. It's not something I can react to anymore without thinking just saying "It's wrong" , and that's just half of that story but I'll leave that for another time.

my view
Watching Gurren Lagann really helped me when I was hospitalized with a digestive disease. Kept my spirits in high hopes during those 2 weeks.

P.S. Didn't I already start a forum like this?
I've learned things about life, friendship, loyalty and kindness from anime such as Dragon Ball and Pokemon, I could've never learned these things without anime, I think if I never watched anime, I would've been a standard Turkish badboy type of guy who only seeks girls for sex (this is something REALLY common here in Holland, its nearly impossible to see people who arent aiming for sex all the time)...

Click my avatar. That image right there, that is priceless. I'm glad to have finally found someone of similar opinion in this waterhole.

Indeed, the Moroccan and Turkish guys here, always sex, they never respect the girls, they keep trying to act ''cool'' but when will they learn that only SLUTS are attracted to fake gangsters... A real woman seeks love for a real man, and a real man seeks love for a real woman, a real man isnt a fake gangster with those damn Nickelson jackets and shaved heads that only wants sex, NO, a real man is someone with confidence, someone with passion, with lust...

Also, I just cant STAND it when a guy disrespects a girl by calling her things like ''bitch'', you just dont fucking say that to a woman!!! Shit like that makes me really pissed, and I'm glad that I am different in this society we're living in... I'm glad to be a (Turkish) Metalhead/gamer/anime fan with a different view on life, and not a standard Turkish wannabe badboy...

Your avatar picture, THAT right there is what real love is :')
The only thing i can recall anime doing any kind of change is how i view certain things such as women and people in general. Also, my view point on the usual villain has changed because is some good anime/manga stories the villain has a reason behind his villainous deeds.

I may be a fan of ecchi anime but i dont like hentai. In fact i have yet to finish a single episode of any hentai. I only try watching them for the sake of being well versed. But you know im insulted that you would say such a thing. My love for anime runs much deeper than that!

Thats exactly how i feel. Over the years anime has taught me about many things such as life, relationships and ethics. It will always be an important part of my life.
You should watch Tsubasa Chronicles if you want to act like a knight infront of a girl. Yup ;3
well, anime made me learn Japanese language (with subtitles) and when i see an anime with some fantasy material, i dream it in other nights like one day i see a completely anime (xXxHoLic) and i dreamed to be...

Wait, you mean you actually learned japanese just by watching anime subbed? I doubt you could learn to speak it fluently without a proper language course but hey what do i know? As for me i picked up some terms and such without even realizing it. Still if i ever tried to learn japanese (and i really do want to) i would take a course and rely on subs only for common terms and phrases if anything.
Oh, yeah!

Anime made me want to learn japanese too!(I currenlty was, a month ago)

Also, anime thaught me A LOT of things about myself, how I view others, the world, life in general and anime provided me with a new approach to things, a new way to think about stuff.

So, yeah, I wouldn't be the same person without anime. In fact, I thik I would be a lesser perso.
It's made me happy and given me something to be passionate about.
@otaku_emmy
And given the nature of your posts in the past few days, reading this is really encouraging and makes me feel happy for you (despite not really knowing anything about you).

Uhm, I just felt like that needed to be said.
