It's usually the more rural areas that are kinda antagonistic/hostile to foreigners.
That's too bad but I get it. If i did live in Japan, I would prefer to live in the countryside. I'm still not sure if I'll live there or just visit every few years but I guess I don't need to worry about it right now.

Nope. Kimonos are bad ass and cute at the same time. They can also be sexy ^_^ what's there not to like? Would like to get one my self sometime.
I bet you want a katana to go with that kimono ^_^

I sure would! So jealous my brother who's over there thanks to the military. He's not even a fan of anime! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Wish i could trade spots so that i can get my anime fix.

There is one thing that i will not do and that is buying figures or anime or game characters. That and i won't buy visual novel games... I never figured out if it's worth buying those or not. Cosplay is also where i draw the line. It seems like going to an extreme. I like looking at them though. ^_^ Some of them can be really...good looking.
I'd like to play a visual novel, I've always loved those "choose your own path" storys :3 Figures? I don't have much interest in that. Cosplay? No thank you, I doubt I could pull it off anyway ^_^'

P.S. Next time you see your brother tell him that ecchi's mad at him -3- tell him that ecchi's mad at him because he's in Japan and he's not making the most of it.
So you're pretty much limited yourself instead of going for the limitless option. Anyway, I don't watch anime 24/7 since I'm not able to, as I play games, listem to music, watch a few other nerdy type TV shows, and have a job to pay for everything. Like Emmy I have posters everywhere in my room from the monthly magazines I buy from overseas, which also means I have a load of merchandise. I have an extenive ammount of DVDs and manga that I buy every month as well, and I do collect figures. Although I've been stopping myself recently from getting figures because I'm running out of room and it's getting too expensive even for me, so I just buy high quality ones that come every once in a while now. I mentioned this before but my room would look like one of those otaku rooms some of you may have seen on Sankaku. I don't think it's as impressive as most of those but I think it would probably make it.

I've also been getting into cosplay, with the first one not working out 100% but ended up good, the 2nd was amazing if more people would've known what I was, and the 3rd I haven't worn yet because I didn't get a few things to complete the costume. Although I'm going to to a 2nd convention this year at the end of August so I'll be able to wear it then. Also have planned several more cosplay since me and my friends are going to be BlazBlue characters.

I love Kimono's but I sadly do not own any. If I did I'd have one of the more exquisite types and the simple types so I can wear normally. Funny enough the character I didn't get to cosplay yet has a 2nd form where he wears a kimono so I'll be able to get one, eventually.

So while I'm at this 2nd convention and I'll probably get my picture taken while I'm in cosplay, I'll probably share them with you, though I'll of course look different.

EDIT: Oh yeah, visual novels, I don't really get them either. If anything I download them but I never get around to playing them and just get the CGs instead. I have a couple english ones though.
I've never even been to a convention before :'3
Depending on where you go and who you go with, conventions can be amazing. You have hot chicks in cosplay, some panels that may or may not interest you, and anime that you may or may not have seen on a big screen. You also have AMV contests, guests, and concerts. The one I'm going to in August/September has several english voice actors of anime and games apparently, and I like most of them so I want to meet them. It's also usally japanese bands at the concerts as well.

I will say that they are one of the few places that you can meet new people and gain new friends offline because you know pretty much everyone is an otaku or nerd. This year me and my friends gained some new friends that live nearby just by going. Cosplaying actually helps a bit more, especially if you cosplay with other people doing the same series.

What's E3?
I believe it has to do with games...

Already googled it.
Electronic Entertainment Expo
BTW, friendly reminder: you're all kinda veering off the thread topic now.

Crap! How could I let that happen!? Okay, back on topic... so Stahn... how otaku are you? :3
And I'm still missing stuff, like all my manga, artbooks, the rest of my figure collection, plus my actual DVD/BD collection. I spent a total of 3 years living in JPN. (Though only 3 of them were living ON JPN. My first 3 years were while living on an aircracft carrier as a low-ranking lackey in the military. My second 3-year stint was much better.)
I have more respect for you now than ever before :3
oh, yeah, ecchi...
if you're still interested...
you could well be a lvl9 on my rating, that would make me a lvl6

Well, I only currently have like 20-33% of my actual collection with me. The rest is in storage. If and when I ever get my crap back, maybe I'll take some photos and dump them some place for you guys to see. (Assuming I get them back while I'm still active here on Kona.)

EDIT:
OLD pics (Summer, 2003) - From when I was living in a barracks with 2 roomies. This was my desk area.

Ignore the plush duck (right side) and the Sailor Moon figure (left corner). Those were gifts for friends, so I don't have them anymore.
I watch one anime a week... and i go to this site.

I guess that means it's either pretty low or I'm a closet otaku? x)
damn, you really make a point of being (sometimes even below)average, do you?
@Stahn, i take it you can read JPN?
Not very well. Kana I can do. I only now a small handful of kanji. Unfortunately, I'm rusty as hell with writing JPN. I can barely even readily write Kana anymore. And I never learned to write any kanji.

In either case, my JPN vocabulary still sucks overall. I only really know commonly used words and phrases in anime and games, plus a handful of terms and phrases for every day use. If you see me doing extension JPN work on Kona (i.e. note translations), it's because I'm a liberal user of Microsoft's IME, Google Translate, Wikipedia, and Wiktionary.

Oh, thank you Gregol but... I think that's too generous ^_^' if the highest level is 10 then I can't be more than an 8. I think that rating will be more appropriate in a year or so when I've seen enough anime to make up for not having much manga and no merchandise.
If I were to say how close, I'd say I'm a step down from Stahn. But then again I haven't really shown or mentioned exactly what I have like Stahn has. Don't have the time to really do that at the moment. I've been meaning to take pictures of my room so I can show what I have without explaining much.

Im not trying to be below average, anime just isnt something i obsess over.... and self esteem i guess xD.

I have a alot of interests in alot of other areas, dont worry x)
I hope you have a lot of self esteem in other areas as well...
How otaku am i? Well, i'm currently reading more than 20 titles of mangas, and daily check the update of scanlation at mangareader/fox. I love watching anime as well, the one airing at animax especially. The extend or limitation of my otakuness? Money. Just don't have much money to spent on merchandises, even tough i actually really want to collect them. Maybe once i become a billionaire?
