I have and i always end up with the same answer it's either because of complex magnetic fields or simply because magic.

the flying islands have antimatter in them
Everyone knows that the rocks around magical islands are filled with Helium...They used to be filled with Hydrogen, but the magic fairies who create them found that too explosive when they were attacked by the outsiders... On another note, why are island fairies so hot-looking...

Because gravity is for pussies.

Those giant upside-down brass wings and what I believe is a watergate are odd constructs in a city that otherwise seems to built around practicality. Local culture? Would be interesting to see what the people here looks like.
