It could be just that his depiction takes place before he got that scar. Or maybe the artist who made this just disliked scars and removed it. Speculating is kind of pointless though, in the end, it is what it is.
The picture itself does well to actually meet the Soul Eater art style.
The look on Souls face makes me think he might be afraid of water.
