eagleNthedesert said: So finally after like 11 months of wanting a beast computer I'm finally putting together a shopping cart for it. This will happen over the next month or so. I promise pictures if I remember to post them here. Budget $3,500 (really high) to give you an idea of what I'm aiming for.
Must have in it.Must have 32gb ram, GPU, and CPU. Win7 pro/ultimate (req. b/c of the ram load) and two, 1 TB drives set up in a RAID1 array (basically they are exact copies of each other in case one fails), 2-3 monitors, and SSD for the OS. The GPU and CPU are set in stone. Anyone have any thoughts?
ADMIN (SA): Post Moved
You even stated it in your opening sentence...[sentence removed by original Author] [Author edit after move.] eagleNthedesert: OK. side noteThis answers a question of my and clarifies how/what you can do as an admin. Its my post but posted as you. Its deleted by me but you deleted it. That makes me wonder if you have access to my account/password.
Computer Building rant(ish)
My thoughts are you only have 2 important parts set. SSD and HDD's are not quite as important, but there are of course 3-4 more parts you need to think very carefully on. First is the case. It may not seem important but getting the wrong case can kill ya in the long run, since you need to think of the size of the case and if it has sufficent cooling capabilities. Second is the power supply. Getting a random one is a bad idea. I suggest anything over 750w and maybe one with removeable cables (I think some can do that), but those will be powerful enough for high end GPU's, especially Nvidia's with their weird plugs. Third is the Motherboard. If you have everything set with the case and CPU then you need to find the right one. Honestly it's the hardest part to decide on IMO. Oh, and you don't need a MB with a PCI Express 3.0 just for the GPU. GPU's with those slots are backwards compatible since MB's are just starting to come out with those new slots (I think). I forgot but the size of the case is crucial for the size type of the MB, don't want an Extended ATX when you can't fit one in a Mid Tower sort of thing.
So there is one more thing and a side note to talk about. The last thing is the RAM, because like the power supply you can't get any RAM and then jam it into the MB. You have the right size to get all 32gb, which is 4 8gb sticks in all 4 slots. The RAM also has to be supported by the MB since not all MB's support everything when you look at the details. The side note is that when you get your CPU, get a CPU cooler. The stock one will run too hot and be loud in most cases and you're better off getting one that's bigger with more heat managment. The one I have is a Cooler Master which is a vastly larger heat sink than the stock that can fit 2 fans on either side. It only came with one but it is sufficent, and I can't add a 2nd cause the RAM is in the way. Ya also don't want to face the fan towards an intake fan(s) which is usually the front of the case (depending on the case). While stock heatsink/fans for CPU's point to the side of the case, the one I have has the fan pointing to the back or front of it, and yes that means it's that huge of a heatsink/fan.
Regular Users "Common Knowledge" on Mod/AdminsAlso, for the admin thing, I thought most people knew about such capabilities of a mod/admin. They are able to do anything on the site as long as one knows how to. Not neccessarily mods but any and all admins have access to the accounts and passwords. Passwords can be iffy since admins can bypass it anyway but usually can see them to help with password recovery if that program fails. Though, it depends on the site, but I think for here only Shuugo can see the passwords anyway. Stahn will definately correct me on this though. Anyway, this should all pretty common knowledge IMO but I know most people might not know in the end. I've said before in the past that I've been a mod and admin on a few occasions so what I know might not be so known to regular users that do not look up the information.
For a headset, I'd recommend something from Razer personally. Some of them are USB ported but I do not know if they work on Xbox at all. I've only used headsets for the PC anyway.
