chii chobits elda ipod parody pink silhouette

why does it say panties, when it should be underpants?
Why do you say underpants? That whole episode was about her buying underwear for HERSELF (despite the ultimate outcome of that episode.)

Probably because in the English dub (not sure about subbed) she says "underpants" instead of its other synonyms.
...I keep forgetting dubs don't always translated properly back into the original japanese...(Hell, I keep forgetting Dubs exists until I get slapped in the ears by one...)

I haven't touched Dubs since my pre-high school days as an anime watcher and fan...
By the time its dubbed its not the same anime.
I only watch a dub if there is no alternative, aka I've been watching subbed but an episode is awol, I think it has happened.. twice maybe.

They're two totally different languages, so it's understandable there will be mistakes like that and that it takes a while for the dubbing process. Some things only work right in Japanese, so its a tough job for whoever picks up a series to dub. You can't really hate the dubbers (many people seem to), they're people just like us who are just doing the things they love. I myself like to watch dubbed anime and don't mind little mistakes like that. If the dub is bad, then it's most likely because you've watched the subbed version. I find it easier to watch through dubs if you have not heard the original voices because you don't have something to compare them to. Ex: I already saw Clannad subbed but when I saw the English dub I was like OMG it's awful (except Ryou). However, when I saw Chobits for the first time I watched it dubbed in English and I enjoyed it. So that seems to work for me, see if it works for you too.
No, I mean literally.
CCS dubbed to Cardcaptors is an extreme example.
