that bow actually looks functional, i can't help but to wonder about the mechanics of it
Looks like a rather normal longbow with a pointlessly ornate riser. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I wouldn't want all that extra weight on my arm.
all those tangential rods protruding from the arms - going to snag on just about everything you pass by . No no no - bad stabilizer design.
Going by the looks of the point where the arms Connecticut with the main part, it looks like some kind of helping mechanism. Perhaps you can regulate the "trigger" to be either harder of softer.
It is just a plain long bow, not even a recurve and definitely not a compound bow. The further you pull the string back, the more the tension. Bows don't have a "trigger" as such, but mechanical releases can be used to provide a clean release of the string more easily then with just fingers. These usually have straps that go around your wrist or T-grips to help you pull more "weight" then you could comfortably hold just using your fingers as well.
