The plane is see-through...
More likely that's just a lot of dust and/or ash in the air.
I have to agree with emmy, that plane looks like it was cut out of that layer. It's too distinct of a difference, and if it were there, we should be able to see some sort of reflection of the light on it if the blaze is as large as i think it is.
I had taken Emmy's comment to mean that we could see stars through the plane. But given the setting, I see that as dust/ash rather than stars. How the plane was drawn is a different matter. I just consider that an artistic style.
