Wow O_O This picture is one of the best anime pics that I've seen.
They're sticking a lot of girls with guns nowadays...
Is it just me, or the bolt is on the wrong side?
A few possibilities:

  • Mistake on the artist's part
  • Chara is a left-handed user (could be a custom rifle if that's the case. Doesn'r look like any rifle I've ever seen. There are rifles in real-life that can be wielded naturally by a lefty though.)
  • Image could have been flipped/mirrored at some point prior to posting.
And speaking of image edits: what's with the edges of this image? There are inconsistencies along them (easiest to spot are by the rifle stock and her leg.)
Hmm true, although I'm leaning more towards "Artist's mistake". In the anime Suou is distinctly right-handed, also I've seen many duplicates of this image on the web (All orientated like this) so it probably wasn't flipped.

Perhaps the artist got confused because there is one instance in the anime where the left-handed version was used, but not by Suou.

Anyways not really a big deal, by the way now that you've pointed it out, I do indeed see the inconsistencies by the edges of the image, weird.
Well, I haven't seen this series, so I was just throwing ideas out there.

The artist could have done it on purpose because it might've look better aesthetically to have the bolt facing outward rather than inward, toward her body.

It's a balancing act between realism/accuracy vs artistic value/aesthetics.

Looks about right to me...

I don't see anything wrong with the bolt and slider, since right-handed snipers use a left-sided bolt. I have some experience in shooting and loading snipers. The only thing that bothers me is that, at the time you pull the bolt back, the slider might still be closed, so where does the empty bullet shell go?

Anyway, this is an awesome pic, fav.-ted :D

Ah, you're right about that.

This rifle doesn't look anywhere near typical. It's looks more like a improvise pipe-rifle mounted on a pistol grip to me. Who knows how this gun is suppose to operate.

Was this gun featured in the series? Or is this gun strictly something this particular artist came up with?

Hahahaha! It does, doesn't it?

Also, yes it was featured in the 2nd Season of Darker than Black, and was used often, mainly by Suou.

Alota stuff...
I can't argue with you there, since I haven't watched the show b4, BUT I still think left sided bolt are used by right-handed snipers, because it would be much easier to reload it when the guy is laying on the ground. The guy wouldn't even have to take his eye off the scope, for as if the bolt was on the right side, the sniper looses sight of his target for the time it takes to look at the bolt, push the sniper sideways without realizing it, the look through the scope again noticing that the sniper is out of position. The guy loses his target... It's not that much more effort for us, but for a sniper, the less effort, the better, even when SO little.
(I'm not referring to the anime in any way. :D)

Take this to forum maybe?

More than likely if you wanna get in-depth on weapons-handling. Which I wouldn't mind: Gunslinger Girls got me interested in general weapons info since that was the first series I saw that had a bit of detail regarding weaponry.

The only live handling I've ever done was basic M9/Beretta 92F handling in Navy bootcamp; that was years ago (2001).

If you wanna guys wanna continue, one of you create a thread in the Forum and post a link here afterwards.

@Misplaced: If you intend on writing long posts like that, may I suggest using spoiler tags on each paragraph/quote to save space? ^_^ I do that myself whenever it feels like I'm about to write a short essay ^_^;

Oh yeah, sorry, I don't usually post that much. :P
No worries dude. You should see some of the posts I've made before...^_^; Both in the comments area and in the forums.

My personal rule of thumb is to try to not exceed about 2x the height of an avatar. I switch to using spoiler tags if it's longer than that so the comment section doesn't look horrible. (Heck, just look at the comments for this image post ^_^;)

Well there are 2 rifles in the anime one is with the left bot and the other with the right bolt. One is originally hers from her ability to spawn it with the bolt on the correct side while the other one who her brother uses IE an original AT rifle was modified since he was left handed. So it all likely hood shes reminiscing over her brothers weapon which he discarded in the series.
